Team Mode is an AI team for musicians and small labels: one AI manager, Val, routes every request to a persistent specialist (A&R, Release Manager, Playlist Strategist, Video Editor and 11 more), each with its own thread, memory and personality. Instead of one generic chatbot doing everything, you get a team that splits the work the way a real artist team does.
It ships inside Chatmu 4.0, on the web and on WhatsApp. Chatmu is an AI agent for the music industry with its own catalog of music-industry MCP connectors. Team Mode is how that agent organizes itself when your career needs more than one pair of hands.
I run a label with around 500 tracks and about ten music YouTube channels. I know the list by heart: a release manager, someone on distribution and metadata, someone on playlists, a publicist, a social person, someone chasing royalties, a booker. A real team is the thing that separates a release that lands from one that disappears on Friday night. Most independent artists can't pay for even two of those roles, and small labels stretch three people across forty jobs.
The obvious answer in 2026 is "use AI". But one chatbot isn't a team. A general assistant forgets what you told it last week, mixes your pitch notes with your tour budget in the same endless thread, and answers every question in the same voice. It doesn't own anything. Nobody is responsible for the playlist follow-up on day three.
That's the gap Team Mode closes: ownership. Each specialist owns a slice of your career and remembers it.
You talk to one person: Val, your AI manager. Val decides whether a request is a manager call ("I only have budget for playlist pitching or a video this month, which one?") or a specialist job. Prioritization stays with Val. Execution goes to the specialist, and Val tells you in one line who's taking it: "Passing this to Lola, your publicist."
Each specialist is persistent. It has its own conversation thread, its own memory and its own personality. Your Royalties & Admin specialist speaks in deltas and action items; your A&R backs every opinion with streams and market context. Ask Val "how's the press thing going?" a week later and the publicist picks up its own thread instead of starting from zero.
You don't start with all 15. If you ask for something nobody on your roster covers, say a tour route through northern Mexico, Val hires the right specialist from the role templates and hands the job over in the same turn. Your team grows with what your career actually needs.
Some jobs are big: pulling numbers for a whole catalog, researching dozens of curators, comparing several markets. For those, Chatmu can fan the work out to parallel sub-agents, three Chatmus working at once, and merge the results. Those workers are temporary; the persistent specialists are the ones who keep the memory.
| Role | What it handles | Example request |
|---|---|---|
| Manager (Val) | Orchestrates the team, prioritizes, hires specialists | "What should I focus on this month?" |
| A&R | Finds emerging artists, evaluates demos, researches label rosters | "Find three emerging artists in my genre I could collaborate with." |
| Release Manager | Dates, release waterfalls, DSP pitches, release campaigns | "Plan my next single for December 4." |
| Distribution | Uploads to DSPs, metadata, ISRCs, UPCs, splits | "Check the metadata and cover before we upload." |
| Publishing & Legal | PRO registrations, split sheets, work-for-hire, contracts | "Draft a split sheet for the track with my co-writer." |
| Booking & Live | Venues, tour building, gig viability, promoter pitches | "Is a 300-capacity room in Bogotá realistic for me?" |
| Analytics & Strategy | Weekly and monthly reports, streams, demographics, top cities | "How did my numbers move last month?" |
| Marketing & Social | Campaigns, social calendar, posting, KPI tracking | "Build the pre-save campaign for the single." |
| Playlist Strategist | Editorial and independent playlists, pitching windows, curator outreach | "Which curators should get this track?" |
| Sync & Licensing | Sync-ready prep for film, TV, ads and games, brief responses | "Which of my songs fit this ad brief?" |
| Publicist & PR | Press kits/EPKs, media outreach, follow-ups | "Prepare the press pitch and a list of who gets it." |
| Royalties & Admin | Statement audits, metadata and split checks, MLC/PRO registrations | "Is my last song registered correctly with The MLC?" |
| Video Editor | Cuts, word-level subtitles, 9:16 reframes, lyric and visualizer videos | "Cut three vertical clips with subtitles from this video." |
| Fan Engagement | Fans DNA analysis, CRM and email campaigns, superfan conversion | "Who are my superfans and what do they respond to?" |
| Tour & Live | Routing, show viability, tour budgets, merch operations | "Route a spring tour with dates that don't clash." |
Each role comes preloaded with the relevant skills and connectors, so the Royalties specialist can actually query The MLC connector and the Distribution specialist works with the real distribution wizard, not a description of one.
A specialist answering when you ask is useful. A specialist that works on a schedule without being asked is closer to having staff. That's what Agent Jobs are: autonomous, recurring workers assigned to a role. Each one asks you a few setup questions, fills in what it can from your artist workspace, and reports back to WhatsApp, email or in-app.
Here's what happens when you send Val this on WhatsApp: "I want to release my next single in 6 weeks. Master is ready. Small promo budget."
You approve the decisions. Each step lands in your WhatsApp with the specialist's name on it, and every specialist remembers what the others already did because it all lives in the same artist workspace. For the full release checklist, see how to plan a music release with AI.
| Chat mode | Team mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Quick questions, one-off tasks | Ongoing work with owners and deadlines |
| Who answers | The Chatmu agent directly | Val, who routes to specialists |
| Memory | The conversation and your artist workspace | Each specialist keeps its own thread and memory |
| Example | "What's my top city on Spotify?" | "Run the press campaign for the single and keep me posted." |
My rule: if the answer fits in one message, use Chat. If someone should still be thinking about it next Tuesday, use Team. The idea behind it is what I call vibe managing: you set direction, the team executes.
Labels and managers don't run one career, they run a roster. In Chatmu each artist has its own workspace, and each workspace has its own team, thread and memory. On WhatsApp, business plans switch artist with /artista Name or just by asking ("switch to Palmasur"). The publicist working on one artist never mixes in notes from another.
For labels, the A&R specialist and the Talent Scout job are the front door: they find and evaluate artists before you sign them. I wrote about that workflow in AI A&R: how to discover emerging artists. Then Distribution, Royalties & Admin and Publishing & Legal keep the catalog clean: metadata, splits and registrations, which is where small labels usually lose money.
There's a free plan to try it; see pricing for what each plan includes.
Team Mode turns Chatmu into an AI team: Val, your AI manager, routes each request to a persistent specialist with its own thread, memory and personality, or hires one if the role is missing.
No. You start small and Val hires a specialist from the 15 role templates when a request needs a role your team doesn't have yet.
Yes. You can talk to Val on WhatsApp in the same thread as the web, send voice notes, and receive reports, PDFs and job results there.
Specialists are persistent and remember their work. Sub-agents are temporary workers Chatmu runs in parallel for heavy jobs, then discards once the results are merged.
Yes. Chatmu MCP brings 156 music-industry tools into Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client. Team Mode and Agent Jobs live in the Chatmu agent on the web and WhatsApp.
AI for the industry. Humans for the music.
